Jonas Exume was born in Petion Ville which continues to inspire his work. Beyond Petion Ville, his paintings are now selling quickly worldwide.
He has worked with many great artists, including Carel Blain, Francoise Jean, Sanon, his cousin Lesly Exume etc.
Jonas Exume is without question a good addition to any Haitian Art collection. Although Jonas lives and paints in New Jersey today, his heart remains in Mattapan.

Marjorie Saintil-Belizaire is a Haitian-American mixed-media artist who lives and creates in Mattapan.
Her work is driven by her fascination with color and the physicality of texture.
Her process is influenced by the subject matter and medium. One painting evolves from an earlier piece in a process that is experimental and emergent in vision and in execution.
Walter Clark is a boston-based sculptor who's been exhibiting and selling his artwork in the Boston area for over 30 years.
He is a regular participant in Jamaica Plain and Roxbury Open Studios, and joined Mattapan Open Studios 2018 as well.
Pamella goncalves
As an conceptional artist, Pam Goncalves tries to breathe life into who she is, through designs, ideas, and innovations displayed in every finished work.
Her artistic challenge (as with any recreated moment from the past) is to not caricature the moment, but to capture it in all its former glory.
Her artwork speaks, primarily for her ancestors who were long ago silenced.
In Memoriam
The Mattapan Arts Council extends its appreciation to the family of James E. Guilford, Jr. for allowing Mattapan Cultural Arts Development to exhibit his artwork at Mattapan Open Studios 2017.
James E. Guilford, Jr.
James E. Guilford, Jr., was born on October 7, 1911 in Boston, MA. He graduated from Boston Latin School (BLS) in 1928, and until his death in 2015, was its’ oldest living graduate.
Jimmy was drafted to WWII and received a Purple Heart for his Service. One of the first Black Master Barbers and Instructors in Boston, Jimmy came back to his barbershop after the war.
Dunbar Barbers was a cornerstone in the Black community and a magnet for travelling musicians, sportsmen, and entertainers like Duke Ellington, Sugar Ray Robinson and the Ink Spots.
An avid golfer, Mr. Guilford was also a real estate broker and later discovered himself as a painter. He was a frequent exhibitor for “Sundays in the Park” and showcased his work at his phenomenal birthday parties at Scullers’. The pieces exhibited in Mattapan Open Studios 2017 reflect his varying interests during his pursuit of honing his craft.
